We continue the “Tabernacle in the Wilderness” series with the seventh and last article of furniture, the brazen laver. Made of brass, the laver was used by the priests to wash themselves. The laver was a picture of the bible.
Just like the bible, the laver is used to cleanse man. The priests were ordered to cleanse themselves in the laver just as we, as Christians, are expected to cleanse ourselves by reading God’s word. There was only one laver, as there is only one bible. The first time the priests were washed by Moses, after that, it was up to them to cleanse themselves. God has washed our sins away, however, it is up to us to keep ourselves clean by living in His word, and surrounding ourselves with it by reading our bible every day. If the priests did not wash themselves before entering the tabernacle, they would die. If we do not cleanse ourselves with God’s word, we die spiritually. We must keep ourselves clean by reading and living God’s word, just as the priests kept clean with the water from the laver.
