In this Sunday night sermon, we learn about the importance of baptism in the path of a believer. In our Christian lives, baptism has a method, and a motive.
In 1 Peter, we learn about how Jesus modeled our method for baptism. Just before His crucifixion, Jesus gives us the ordinance of winning souls to Him, and then baptizing those who have been saved. We are to baptize by submersion, as it is a picture of our Lord’s death, burial, and resurrection. Our motive for baptism lies in the symbolism of a dramatic inner change in our lives once we are saved. Baptism doesn’t save us, but can give us a clean conscience towards God. Baptism is also a pledge to the outside world to serve Jesus Christ, and that you are a new creature in Christ, who has changed.
