Three Words For Dry Bones

In this Sunday morning sermon, we are brought to a battlefield littered with the bones of a defeated army. Ezekiel has been led there by God. As he looks around, Ezekiel notices that these bones are completely dry and without life. As God begins to speak to Ezekiel, He gives Ezekiel the instructions for what to prophecy in order to bring these bones back to life. Ezekiel follows God’s instructions and because of this, the bones are brought back to life.

These dry, lifeless bones are a picture of Israel. They were lacking spiritual life at this time, they were spiritually dead. God wanted to show them not only could He fix what had gone wrong, He would breathe new life into them. Much like Israel, sometimes because of battles we fight in our daily lives, we become wounded and die spiritually because of it. We begin to let go of our relationship with Christ because we feel that we simply cannot go on. Even though we may face opposition more often than not, we need to remember that God is our healer. Just as He revived and breathed physical and spiritual life into the dead, dry bones of those men who lay in the battlefield, He can and will revive us. If we come to Him and ask, He will breathe that spiritual breath into our lives once again, so that we may feel the Holy Spirit stir within us and around us as we once did.
