The Offering

The last sermon in the series, ‘Corinthians,’ finds Paul writing to the Corinthian church one last time. The topic of Paul’s discussion for this last letter is offering. Paul explains that much like the churches of Galatia, an offering was to be taken within the church.

Paul had several reasons for addressing the offering. Paul believed that it was important for the Corinthian church to understand that offerings should be systematic, meaning as soon as you are gifted with your weekly paycheck, you should set aside God’s portion for the offering. This isn’t just a ten percent tithe, but to give as God has blessed you. Paul also wanted to make it clear that giving is a way to worship. Often in our churches today, the offering is viewed as a burden, instead of a form of worship. We should be glad that we are able to worship God by giving back to the church to help extend those blessings to others.
