The Altar Of Incense

This sermon in the series, “Tabernacle in the Wilderness,” turns our focus to the golden altar, or the altar of incense within the tabernacle. The sixth article of furniture, the altar of incense could only be used or accessed by priests. The golden altar was reliant upon the brazen altar, and was often viewed as a picture of prayer.

The altar of incense was a picture of prayer because only those who had been cleansed, in this instance, priests, could bring an offering unto it. Without first accepting Jesus as our Savior, we cannot expect for our prayers to be brought before God. We must cleanse ourselves through the blood of Christ, through His sacrifice, in order to enter into the presence of God the Father. This is also why the golden altar was reliant upon the brazen altar. Before a Christian can worship God and step into His holy presence, we must accept the sacrifice of Jesus, and be cleansed of our sins. Only then can we begin to worship and form a relationship with God.
